Episode 34 - Fruits of the Spirit: Self Control

The final episode of our “Fruits of the Spirit” series is here! It has been such a sweet and rich time of learning this year as we have delved into these fruits and what they mean for us, our lives in Christ, and what He calls us to. Our final “fruit” is self-control! What is self-control? How did Christ exhibit self- control? Was Jesus self-controlled when He overturned the temple tables? We hope you will join us in listening and that you’ll be encouraged as we have that our God is a self controlled God that does not change and what good news that is for us!

    Quotes:

  1. "A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. You find out the strength of the wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down. A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it: and Christ, because he was the only man who never yielded to temptation, is also the only man who knows to the full what temptation means." -CS Lewis; Mere Christianity

  2. "A sheep without the shepherd has no defense against the dangers which threaten it. It can defend itself neither from the robbers nor the wild beasts. If life has taught us one thing it must be that we cannot live it alone. No man can defend himself from the temptations which assail him and from the evil of the world which attacks him. Only in the company of Jesus can we walk in the world and keep our garments unspotted from it. Without him we are defenseless; with him we are safe." -William Barclay

  3. "By trusting in Jesus you are turning your back on the works of the flesh forever." -Alexa Miller

  4. "And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." -Galatians 5:24

  5. "As in an actual crucifixion, life lingers even though the criminal has been nailed to the cross. Nevertheless, the believer is to regard the (crucifixion of the old flesh) as a decisive act as having been done." James Montgomery Boice

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen."
