When Culture & Christianity Collide

When Culture & Christianity Collide

One of the most prominent issues in the American society today is the fight for the “rights and equality” of the LGBT group. As Christians it is important to be taking a stand against this and being able to clearly articulate why we believe it is wrong.

First and foremost we fight against the LGBT community’s stances not with words of hate and anger, but with truth and love. Not the type of love that the world resonates with but a love that is from God. A love that seeks to share the truth because of our desires to glorify God. We seek for this because any sin, yes the LGBT group is living in sin, is an attack upon the Gospel itself.

The Gospel is the truest form of love that there can ever be. An all-powerful God sending his son Jesus to die the cruelest death and rise from the dead, for an underserving people, so that we may be free from our bondage of sin and trust his sacrifice is the only way we can be reconciled to God.  If Jesus’ death was our release from the chains in which we were bound, why would you want to promote or support a sin that the Lord has commanded against and is the very thing that separates us from our Lord.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us." 1 John 4:7-12

I have seen many arguments for why people think that the Bible doesn’t command against homosexuality, and they all fall incredibly short.

The first one I have seen is that the Bible only condemns homosexual activities and the lifestyle in the Old Testament and since the O.T. also condemns things like: wearing certain fabrics and not eating certain foods it no longer pertains to this day in age etc. First off, homosexuality is condemnedthroughout the entire Bible, Old and New Testament alike, with even the smallest amount of research this claim is shot down. (1 Timothy 1:10, 1 Corinthians 6:9, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-27)

The second argument I’ve heard was actually circulating on Facebook and claimed that homosexuality was once forbidden and sinful ,but as time went on we understood that the forbiddance of homosexuality along with other laws and consequences were inhumane and cruel. This argument is ridiculous for one reason and one reason alone. God does not change, not yesterday, not today, not tomorrow. He is an all-knowing and all-powerful God who created the very laws this group claims are inhumane and unjust. God did not wake up in the 21st century to the cries of the LGBT community for American equality and suddenly realize his laws and standards were unjust. His standard does not change, the standard is holiness and perfection, nothing less.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” Isaiah 40:8

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” Psalm 90:2

Honestly, any argument this community has or had for why the LGBT movement is upright and noble is easily buried by the truth of the Bible. It is not a hard topic to research or even a grey area, with the smallest amount of searching and understanding you can at least understand the Bible’s stance on the LGBT movement. At the end of the day if you are calling yourself a Christian but supporting this movement you are not honoring God and are living in sin and need to repent. The Bible is incredibly clear on this subject and as believers you are called to put off your old self and live in the new. Jesus Christ demonstrated the greatest love ever on the cross, and to manipulate the word love to mean accept all sins is a mockery of the Gospel.  If you are struggling with the laws and standards that God made remember that His laws are good, just, and holy! These laws are never there to prohibit “fun” but they are for our good and His glory! By taking a stand against the manipulation or blatant disobedience of the truth of the Bible you are loving this community and others who may agree with their standings. It can be hard to combat cultural issues when you feel like the truth is outdated or harsh, but stand firm in the truth and trust in the Lord that your obedience is not in vain!

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

Forever, O Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.” Psalm 119:89
